Overall pretty good, with a lot of great information in the introduction on working with native plants, and lots of resources for finding native plants and nonprofits and other organizations dedicated to native plants I thought the gardening tips in the introductory material were excellent with entire mini chapters dedicated to topics like site preparation, propagation, counterfeit natives andThe book has the perfect tone and level of information for a home gardener The plant listings in Overall pretty good, with a lot of great information in the introduction on working with native plants, and lots of resources for finding native plants and nonprofits and other organizations dedicated to native plants I thought the gardening tips in the introductory material were excellent with entire mini chapters dedicated to topics like site preparation, propagation, counterfeit natives andThe book has the perfect tone and level of information for a home gardener The plant listings include all the important info, including propagation, plus extras like maintenance, bloom season and motility The selection is pretty broad although not exhaustive, as a few natives I know or want to know better were not included The pictures were ok, not great, with just one photo per entry Sometimes the picture was a single close up of the bloom against a dark background, which is probably a great reminder for somebody who knows the plant, but not great for identification, as it is helpful to see the leaf and plant shape as well Or conversely, a shot of the whole plant from a distance which makes it difficult to discern the precise leaf pattern and bloom detail. The book would also benefit from a table of contents But, overall, I think it would be a great complement to a book with better pictures

This is my favorite gardening book for Florida Native plants are wonderful because they are usually either drought tolerant or suited to the ecosystem The only thing I don t like about the book is that so many of the plants are hard to find in nurseries or require wet soil Good pictures help show what the plant looks like, explanations tell how the plant grows.
