We meet Nola Nichols as she’s journeying from Barbados to London She’s left her polo playing boyfriend behind and is returning after time away from the spotlight to model a new collection for a hot glossy magazine Straight away the reader is introduced to Nola’s lifestyle and on the flight home we get a glimpse of her personality that goes with that lifestyle It’s during the flight back that she is cursed and from that moment nothing is uite as it seems As Nola’s beauty fades she’s drawn on a uest with doctor Louis During this time opportunities present themselves which in turn causes a reaction in Nola to look beneath the surfaceThe lead characters and those on the periphery are well developed The descriptions of the places we visit alongside Nola are well written – it was easy for me to feel as is if I was by her side The pace of the novella doesn’t rush us through Nola’s story but unfolds at just the right time As well as containing a moral the reader has the romance between Nola and her doctor with a couple of will they won’t they clashesHow Do You Voodoo? is a novella that will entertain you and engage you perfect for reading on that journey as a break between full length novels or when you have a spare couple of hours to yourselfI would like to thank the author for a Kindle copy in exchange for an honest review

I really like the morality that runs through the heart of this story It’s a short sharp snappy read that takes a light hearted look at the importance we place upon appearances and the detrimental behavior this encourages The treatment Nola dishes out to the old woman is fairly typical and probably not too far fetched if we’re all honestHaving a voodoo curse placed on the book’s main character is a uniue and fun direction to take with this bite sized romance and makes for an entertaining read – plus it is always satisfying to join a character on a his or her’s journey of self discovery The second book in the series is sure to be a hootReviewed by Charlotte Foreman on behalf of BestChickLitcom

This was the second book I received from Loveahappyending magazine to review and I finished it in about an hour Although it is a relatively short book it’s fast paced and very amusing It’s about a young girl called Nola who is how do you put it? uite stuck up and self obsessed Being one of the most beautiful models in the UK she feels that her beauty is a curse until one night on a flight back from Barbados she encounters a woman who is making her flight hell After numerous complaints the woman turns to her and puts a curse on her – unbeknown to Nola – that will gradually make her looks fade Nola meets this woman’s son Louis who takes her on a strange journey through voodoo and spiritualist rituals helps her come to terms with her past and unintentionally makes her fall in love with him Nola opens up to Louis and reveals that she isn’t just a self obsessed ignorant model after all Even if it did take a curse for her to realizeFor a short story I thought this was a very enjoyable and clever plot The author wasted no time tip toeing around what was going on and from the first page I was hooked Hence why I finished it in less than an hour The characters seem very well thought out and you begin to learn uite a lot about them – despite how fast paced the story is Although at first Nola seems like exactly the kind of person you wouldn’t want to meet it’s interesting to read about a main character who isn’t your typical ‘good guy’ In fact see’s extremely infuriating But nevertheless she interesting and the fun really starts when she gets cursed and her teeth start falling out I really liked the character of Louis – he was everything that Nola was not and they really complimented each other however I wasn’t 100% clear on the time frame from when they first met till when they next meet Their relationship is one which seems as though they’d known each other for years – which was lovely but from what I was aware of it was only a few days She develops these deep intense feelings for him in such a short space of time and although it seems unrealistic I guess it can happen for those lucky fewThe only tiny criticism I have is that I noticed a few typo mistakes throughout the book but to me that wasn’t a big deal and perhaps something the author can ensure doesn’t happen in the future For a short story this book was jammed full of drama humour and a splash of unexpected romance For the length of the story it lacked no description or imagine and It definitely shows that people shouldn’t underestimate short stories as they too can be extremely fun and enjoyableSee all my reviews here wwwjennyinneverlandwordpresscom

This is uite a short book – 70 pages – and I started reading it because I needed something short to read and although I don’t really read much romance the title intrigued meNola a high powered glamorous model with an inflated opinion of herself came off the page as particularly unlikeable Not a good start for a romantic story She is on her way from the Caribbean to London for an important photo shoot when she falls foul of a Haitian woman who puts a curse on her From then on things start to happen to Nola which causes her to lose her looks Her skin changes from a healthy tan to a greyish colour with a healthy or should I say an unhealthy eruption of pimples Her blonde hair turns mousy brown and she loses two of her front teeth Doctors indicate she is suffering from a virus but Nola is convinced she is cursedShe seeks out the Haitian woman’s son Louis in an attempt to reverse the curse and from then on things get very interesting There is a trip to Glasgow a creepy cemetery visit a reunion with her mother and a growing attraction to LouisI must admit I had mixed feelings when Nola suffered her loss of looks I swung between feeling sorry for her and feeling she deserved all she got The scene in the Necropolis Cemetery was full of the kind of suspense you would expect in a Stephen King book and I feared for her expecting the worst If I had been writing the story this would have been the lead in to some nasty happenings However this is a romance therefore blood and gore cannot be part of the menu The suspense did continue though but now it was romantic suspense and it had a different feelBy the end of the story Nola had become a very different and much likeable person and I was rooting for her to succeed in capturing her man if not her careerI must say I enjoyed this story much than I expected to and consider it an enjoyable read

This new novella by author Janice Horton is a short read for Halloween time At only 20000 words it's a uick entertaining contemporary read Nola Nichols is a top fashion model used to her appearance being preened and polished to perfection at all times Whilst on a flight traveling back to the UK from the Caribbean trying to sleep in her first class bed Nola is irked by a woman who appears to be ill and has been moved up from economy making noise and causing disruption to her peaceful routine Demanding of the staff that the woman is removed back to her economy seat Nola is aware of some words that the woman utters; could this be some sort of curse? Thinking little of this at the time when she returns home strange physical changes being to happen to Nola Suddenly the things she has prized most highly her looks are starting to fade and with an important new modeling job coming up she must somehow find a way to restore herself There is a strong moral behind the story which is very current when thinking about our society nowadays The main character is very focused on her appearance believing that this is what matters most Through the events within the story she grows to realise that how she behaves and how she treats others are the things that ought to matter to her much and that kindness and friendship are rewarding than selfishness and vanity Will she confront the ghosts of her past? And how will things develop with Louis the doctor she has met? The story takes in amongst other places the City of the Dead or Necropolis in GlasgowIt was a nice change to read a shorter story but one that still felt fulfilling and delivered intrigue and character development Another entertaining fun modern day tale from this author with a nice balance of humour sweet romance morals and a spooky side

The beautiful but selfish and self centered Nola is returning from her getaway to the Caribbean Now that Nola was on her way back to the UK and looking forward to a big photo shoot all she wants to do is rest on the plan But all of that is thwarted when a woman is brought into the cabin where she is and begins making a lot of noise Nola being the diva that she is is angered by this disruption She is rude to the hysterical woman and to the flight crew While Nola is busy demanding things the woman begins placing a voodoo curse on Nola At the time Nola doesn’t believe that could be what the woman was doing But when her precious looks seem to be gone almost over night then she believes In an attempt to beg the woman to lift the curse When she finds out what happened to the woman she thinks all hope is lost That is until she finds the woman’s son With her son she must help him so that he will help her but in doing so will the curse be lifted or will she be forced to leave the career and life she has lived for so longThough this was only a novella this story was as good as some of the full length novels I have read The story was wonderfully told and the characters did a great amount of developing in a short amount of pages I really enjoyed Nola’s transition and the value the finally found in being judged by who she was instead of what she looked like I think this story was great example of the kind of storyteller Janice Horton is I can’t wait to read the rest of the trilogy and one of her full length novels I know that I will enjoy those as much as I did How Do You Voodoo

How do you Voodoo? is a novella of approximately 20000 wordsI really enjoyed this book from start to finish was a shame it was only a short story but still fab indeed It is a book that you can sit down and relax with especially on a rainy day I loved the character Nola Nichols it did really make me laugh the problems she was having shows that being beautiful isn't always everything I do hope Janice does a follow on book so we could find out what happens in Nola's lifeI suggest if you do own a Kindle then do purchase this little Novella as you won't want to miss out i promise you It is a perfect light hearted read

A short lively and entertaining read that was fun to read and thoroughly enjoyableNola is a beautiful and up and coming top model and lands a job that could be her big break but on the flight back to the UK from the Caribbean after drinking too much free champagne and wanting her beauty sleep she is disturbed by a panic stricken elderly lady and insults her The elderly lady retaliates with strange mutterings about revealings but Nola takes no notice despite overhearing murmurs about the lady being a Mamba voodoo priestess until she discovers the beauty that is the key to her life is fading fast Could Nola have been cursed? As her golden hair fades to brown and her tan drains away Nola needs answers and a reversal fast She needs to track down the Mamba woman's son and in doing so becomes enmeshed in the strange world of voodoo magic Will Nola get her reversal or will she never get her looks back? This is a fast paced and humourous read and should be a warning to everybody that you never know who you are being rude to Hold the tongue and be patient or you just might find yourself on the wrong end of a curseA one of a kind read that I would recommend as a light feel good read that can't disappoint and I'll certainly be looking out for the second voodoo book
