A really great book In recent years my favorite Gospel account has been that recorded by John William Willimon only gives mereason to hold it as my favorite In another book called the Jesus Creed by Scot McKnight, there is a chapter called The Jesus Creed as a Table , it is a wonderful chapter which uses the synoptic Gospels as primary references, while William Willimon uses the Gospel of John and takes us through a longer and deeper written study and reflection looking at the Christ A really great book In recent years my favorite Gospel account has been that recorded by John William Willimon only gives mereason to hold it as my favorite In another book called the Jesus Creed by Scot McKnight, there is a chapter called The Jesus Creed as a Table , it is a wonderful chapter which uses the synoptic Gospels as primary references, while William Willimon uses the Gospel of John and takes us through a longer and deeper written study and reflection looking at the Christian Faith as Table and at Table, the inclusive expansive Table One lens that I use to view my Christian calling is a focus on Love with Basin and Towel which is a key part of my daily encounter with Jesus So, I can hardly agreeto Willimon s view which can be roughly simplified as our faith and relationship with Jesus isthan what most people could ever understand or achieve with their vague term or attitude of just spiritual For our journey with and connection to our Lord Jesus is muchthan cosmic and muchthan feelings, or awareness, it is also earthy, and concrete, and communal

I bought this book thinking it would be about the Lord s Supper and to some extent it is, just not how I expected Willimon is working from John s gospel, which has no account of Jesus last supper, so his main text doesn t really mention the Lord s Supper at all Now, he does get to it, but it isn t really a textual exposition, which I suppose is what I was hoping for and expecting In addition, the book was a little scatter shot to me he spends a lot of time in John 3 and John 6commun I bought this book thinking it would be about the Lord s Supper and to some extent it is, just not how I expected Willimon is working from John s gospel, which has no account of Jesus last supper, so his main text doesn t really mention the Lord s Supper at all Now, he does get to it, but it isn t really a textual exposition, which I suppose is what I was hoping for and expecting In addition, the book was a little scatter shot to me he spends a lot of time in John 3 and John 6communion language there It felt to me like he didn t really know where he was goingjust a collection of random thoughts loosely related somethan others to the Lord s Supper
