Nel Zapur is a WITCH sniper who is stationed in an isolated tower with no way in or out Nel vigilantly watches WITCH s borders and eliminates any zombie threat Her life is simple kill zombies, read, and exercise The only breaks in her extended isolation occur when WITCH s leader brings her supplies but that contact is at a distance and brief and fleeting On one snowy evening, Dane Prince stumbles in the woods where the tower is located Injured and pursued by zombies, Nel s tower is Dane s only salvation Nel has never seen a man in her twenty six years of existence WITCH indoctrinates its soldiers to believe that all men are evil and that they are the cause of the zombie outbreak Not sure what to do, Nel reluctantly helps Dane by allowing him to climb into her tower, using a most interesting kind of rope Although Nel does not trust Dane, she is as attracted to him as he is to her Their week together allows a simmering attraction to blaze brightly and the two find something that they never expected to find in the tower.love.I enjoyed this story because of its difference from any other story that I ve read It was a fairytale with zombies and love I didn t think anything like that could be done but Ms Quan did a great job melding those elements together Now, for the readers like me who just don t do zombies, never fear Zombies were only a superficial element in this story Neither character was a zombie and there was no weird inter species bow chicka bow wow going on Both Nel and Dane are human and most of the story focuses on their budding relationship and Nel s introduction into womanhood The story was both sweet and steamy Very enjoyable and unique.Reading Time 2.5 HoursForreviews, visit The BookChick with Kick blog

I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. As is evident by the title and the description, this book is inspired by the classic fairytale, Rapunzel Our heroine has been locked away in a tower from which she can t escape for nearly half her life with no way to escape it and dependent upon her jailor caretaker to bring her supplies She brings the supplies and later Dane up into the tower by means of a rope made from human hair That is pretty much wher I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. As is evident by the title and the description, this book is inspired by the classic fairytale, Rapunzel Our heroine has been locked away in a tower from which she can t escape for nearly half her life with no way to escape it and dependent upon her jailor caretaker to bring her supplies She brings the supplies and later Dane up into the tower by means of a rope made from human hair That is pretty much where the similarities end however, and what follows is quite unique.Nel is hardly a damsel in distress being held captive by some evil witch or stepmother, instead she s a highly trained sharpshooter whose sniper skills would put most elite ops military types to shame She s also highly intelligent, very well educated from reading all of the books she was entombed with, extremely resourceful in making do with less and getting as much use out of everything she can so as to make the most of her limited resources She is accepting of her captivity, but harbors few illusions regarding the motives of the leader of WITCH She is, initially at least, a curious blend of naive innocence and sharp intelligence, and her keen observation skills and cutting logic have her dissecting the situation and coming to accurate conclusions almost within minutes It s entirely believable that she likely could have survived in that tower alone for many years to come.Dane has been sent to infiltrate the WITCH, to learn how they re organized, where their main encampment is, and anything else he can find out about them It was just his bad luck to set out just ahead of a huge blizzard, and his good luck to come across Nel s tower before he froze to death or was devoured by roving zombies in the woods It s hard to get a fix on his character at first, for initially he comes off as being rather an ass for besides talking his way into Nel s tower to survive, he also does it to coldly take advantage of the situation and to use her to learn what he set out to learn When he realizes just how innocent she is, he has a few pangs of conscience, but he still has few qualms about using her however he can to get what he wants, including deliberately seducing her to loosen her tongue His conscience does eventually assert itself though, and once it does, we start to see him as a fairly decent man who s simply used to having to do often distasteful things in the line of duty He continues to have a selfish streak though, evidenced primarily by his insistence on incorporating bondage into their lovemaking in some fashion, even when he takes her for the first time It s true enough that she doesn t object, and actually rather likes it but he never really asks her if it s ok for him to tie her up before he takes her, he just does it.Overall I really enjoyed this book Nel was an interesting character, though I was often confused by how she was portrayed The initial impression we re given of her is of someone who is ultra focused on what she s in the tower to do and who always follows orders and does things by the book regardless of the circumstances Then suddenly she s being shown as being someone who s really quite aware ofthan is immediately apparent, and who is really quite adaptive to changing circumstances For awhile it is a bit hard to tell what she s really like, though it does eventually become apparent that she isn t at all the automaton that she initially appears to be Also, there s something she does in the last part of the book that seems a bit contrary to her character, or at least she seems able to do it fareasily than she maybe should have been able to.I do wish that the whole zombie situation had been explained better, for we re never really told what happened to bring about the zombie apocalypse There s plenty of mention of there being a virus that s responsible, but where did it come from, and how did it end up effectively destroying civilization as we know it These are questions that aren t answered, though I ll admit that it s not really crucial to understanding the story to know those answers The lack of explanation however did make the whole zombie hordes thing seem a bit contrived, however, as though they were really littlethan a convenient plot device to provide reason for Nel to be in the tower, reason for the existence of WITCH aside from the leader founders psychoses , and reason why it was too dangerous for Nel to leave her tower if she d wanted to.I have to admit I waffled quite a bit on the rating for this book My true rating is probably 3 stars, but I couldn t decide at first whether to round it up or down because of the things that bothered me I finally decided that I liked it well enough to give it the benefit of the doubt and round up to 4 I liked the author s writing, and think she shows a lot of promise for the future I ll look forward to reading other things by her This one I d recommend to anyone who likes revamped retold fairytales, erotic romances with a bit of a BDSM flair, or dystopian type books Zombie lovers might be a bit disappointed with this one since the zombies are really rather marginal to the story being told here

Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair Ms Quan needs to get on her laptop and start penningin this undead fairy tale series Full disclosure, I read this series in the wrong order I try not to do this, but in this case, it happened This story may be a bit predictable in how it would end, but it is still cute In fact, I do recommend reading the second book first because it has better world building. In this first one, Nel is a sniper in a tower which has no exit or entry She s been iso Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair Ms Quan needs to get on her laptop and start penningin this undead fairy tale series Full disclosure, I read this series in the wrong order I try not to do this, but in this case, it happened This story may be a bit predictable in how it would end, but it is still cute In fact, I do recommend reading the second book first because it has better world building. In this first one, Nel is a sniper in a tower which has no exit or entry She s been isolated all alone working for WITCH This post apocalyptic world is dysfunctional to say the least Nel is betrayed by the people who raised her This is not a surprise What is a surprise is her chance meeting of a human male In her upbringing, males are evil incarnate The woes of the world rest on male shoulders Dane Prince is an agent for a civilization which closed off their walls to all outsiders It s the movers and shakers with military, political and money background Dane s job is to find out why WITCH is stealing their female children and to bring WITCH down He did not expect to find Nel and despoil her.Yes, despoiling a virgin in a tower with long hair is a fairy tale retold in my book The romance in this story is sweet The sex is spiced vanilla Nel is the character I liked and Dane is just an add on Dane didn t impress me The story did wrap up too quickly and I wished to learnThis story is recommended to those who enjoy fairy tales retold

Disturbing at the start, than a few errors, but still could be enjoyed, I guessI started out with high hopes since I love fairy tales, romance and a saucy read, but from the onset of the story it didn t quite sit well Seeing as I m a determined person and when I want to read for review I will finish a book where I would have put it away after the second chapter if I hadn t promised a review.I hopes since I love fairy tales, romance and a saucy read, but from the onset of the story it didn t quite sit well Seeing as I m a determined person and when I want to read for review I will finish a book where I would have put it away after the second chapter if I hadn t promised a review.I m glad I did, because it did turn out to be a reasonable read, but there s too much not quite right in it for me to recommend it or rate it high. Now let s see what I found so disturbing. The main character has been in the tower 11yrs, since her teens yet she knows she s one of the tallest members of WITCH How can she know if she s not been in the community for that long The prophet once told Nel she had experienced the cruelty of men before she discovered Mother s teachings, Somehow I thought Mother Gothel was the prophet, but this sentence makes me think it are two separate persons So who s bringing supplies then the prophet or Mother Gothel, and who is the prophet Who s Mother And if there s no men in WITCH where do children come from Too many questions taking me out off what could be a great story, and then the no men and children situation is explained from the pov of the man But the confusion about whether or not the prophet and Mother Gothel are one or not remains until later on Nel the mc explains that Mother is a godlike entity she doesn t believe in Then there s the less than perfect choice of words he filled his oversized jacket If he fills his jacket it is not oversized. There s punctuation missing here and there, or is there where it should not be a few days shelter days should not have an apostrophe And there s the contradictions, I ll point out one that stood out to me There was something about him, a sense of strength and the promise of protection that made her feel oddly safe, even though the truth was clearly the opposite This indicates he s clearly a danger to her, or so she perceives, but in the next sentence she thinks no reason to believe he had every intention of hurting her That contradicts the last, important fragment of the previous sentence Threw me right out off the story. And the author makes her character feel and realise a lot, taking me out off her head and no longer being there with the character, but looking in from the outside I would have thought that a book published by a trade publishing house would not allow for this much use of filters or errors. And then a scene I can only describe as possible leading up to a rape I don t care there is described that the girl feels things which are supposed to make me think she wants this, his demeanour and her confusion can lead me to no other conclusion than that he he should not touch her, or even contemplating it Full stop Or Period, depending on where you are And the next part, in his pov makes it even worse, because there it is explained that even though he doesn t call it rape, he full well knows she s confused and has no idea what she feels or how to react and even recognises her fear, he still goes for her At this point I wanted to put down the book, but since I m committed to review it, I had to read on Luckily I did, because soon enough it became clear that even the author thought it might be a bit too much and changed her mind No sex followed he merely trapped her, but it was very unsettling to read Not a good thing in my mind Especially when he goes on to being an overpowering asshole who at that point still wants to take advantage of a clear weakness in his objective.Right, back to the nit picks Missing, and or strange actions The man dropped her magazine from the Glock, hands back the weapon, but not the magazine and yet she reloads it hen he hands back the pistol How can she without the mag Or when he needs to block a window with a bookcase and does so by pushing it along the floor Yet the next sentence tells us it was light enough for him to have been able to pick it up and carry it over in no time Why didn t he then Jeans are being taken off without removal of shoes, yet the socks are coming off Where did the shoes go Then it turns out she s been had against her will by her female best friend before she went to the tower too What is this The female lead is the eternal, stupid victim Then there s the typos, here s two page 40 She eyes lost focus page 48 for the it to almost As you can see there s a lot of things that were there which had they not been made this athan enjoyable read, but as is I can only say, missed opportunity Or it might be I am just too nit picky, but hey, I like my romance reads to be crisp, clean, undisturbing and well edited
