Phillip Gardner was born in Goldsboro North Carolina He attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte While at college, he was encouraged to begin writing fiction, and did soGardner has worked as a musician, touring the Southeast, and as a teacher As a teacher, Gardner has taught composition and literature classes at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, and English at Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina, and Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate Tennessee.

    By chance I happen to be living in North Carolina as my spouse is stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and reading some tidbits about its early years in the story Brother, was a boon David s boss Bill is involved in bootlegging and needs his help in protecting his very young beautiful wife Jen The night takes a dangerous turn when a stranger comes into the store and Jen is violated as David watches helplessly I don t usually find short stories that hold my attention but in Available Li By chance I happen to be living in North Carolina as my spouse is stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and reading some tidbits about its early years in the story Brother, was a boon David s boss Bill is involved in bootlegging and needs his help in protecting his very young beautiful wife Jen The night takes a dangerous turn when a stranger comes into the store and Jen is violated as David watches helplessly I don t usually find short stories that hold my attention but in Available Light I was captivated These short stories are tender, beautiful, and raw In What We Talk About When We Talk About Dean Martin a couple harass their uptight prudish neighbor,Sue Anne and do something graphic to her Winnie the Pooh flag.Bill is quite a character, irresistibly sexy and obnoxious unable to stop himself from teasing poor Sue Anne They get to know about her loneliness when she confronts them, and stays for a drink In another story, a man suspects his wife is having an affair only to find out it is something far worse Every character is complex in all of these stories and the writing is genuine and beautiful I could relate to every character and I was charmed by them too, even the flawed This is a lovely collection about love in all it s various forms, who we are because of it, and the ways it changes us
