First paragraph Squanto leaped from the small boat splashing feet first into the waist deep water Paying no heed to the lapping waves that sent cold shivers up his legs, he quickly made the few dozen steps it took to be free of the Atlantic s icy touch Finally on dry land he collapsed to his knees, thanking the Spirit Mother and running his hands through the coarse wet sand He took a deep breath, his muscular chest expanding as his lungs filled with the sultry spring air.I read this first ep First paragraph Squanto leaped from the small boat splashing feet first into the waist deep water Paying no heed to the lapping waves that sent cold shivers up his legs, he quickly made the few dozen steps it took to be free of the Atlantic s icy touch Finally on dry land he collapsed to his knees, thanking the Spirit Mother and running his hands through the coarse wet sand He took a deep breath, his muscular chest expanding as his lungs filled with the sultry spring air.I read this first episode as part of a Buddy Read for the Zombies group and find that this book is pleasantly surpassing my expectations so far I wasn t too sure about reading a zombie book with historical Native American Indians a sort of Pocahontas with Zombies but so far, so good I was also a little nervous at first because I didn t want Squanto to be a stereotypical Indian with a bad accent and poor English grammar Fortunately, Squanto is muchfleshed out than that not just his muscular chest The backstory of his capture into slavery and the 10 year journey to get back home shades of brave Ulysses, anyone are interesting, and I wanted them to be explored .I liked the dream sequences that Squanto has particularly the little English zombie girl with razor sharp teeth Also, the descriptive narrative, particularly the fighting scenes, remind me strongly of the fighting sequences of Salvatore s Dark Elf Drizzt Do Urden Paragraph after paragraph of sword slinging action Here, we get tomahawks, arrows, and of course, zombies There are some editing issues, common enough with self published works, but nothing to distract too much from the enjoyment of reading

Squanto s return to his native lands, bringing with him his best friend Ben and others from the ship It does not go at all well from the first strange figure he sees in the sand dunes till fleeing with those that survived into the forests a very different homecoming from what was the hoped for trade between his tribe and the King of England Just how zombies came to be on his homeland and if they will spread beyond the sea if not stopped are questions one must hope to have answered in Squanto Squanto s return to his native lands, bringing with him his best friend Ben and others from the ship It does not go at all well from the first strange figure he sees in the sand dunes till fleeing with those that survived into the forests a very different homecoming from what was the hoped for trade between his tribe and the King of England Just how zombies came to be on his homeland and if they will spread beyond the sea if not stopped are questions one must hope to have answered in Squanto Undead Wake the Undead Part 2

This was a good short read about zombies in a period setting There are typos, but they don t bother me much If you can look past the typos, you have excellent action sequences I recommend this book.
