I rarely dip my toes into contemporary romance, but I m so happy I picked up this one First off, DAMN can Ms Brocato write a kissing scene Our hero, Jack, is hot as hell and his kisses made my toes curl The romantic conflict involving Jack s ex put my panties in a bunchthan once, but I absolutely adored that very public moment where Jack makes it plain and clear who he really loves. If you re looking for a small town, heartwarming and sexy read, this is your book The setting, the welco I rarely dip my toes into contemporary romance, but I m so happy I picked up this one First off, DAMN can Ms Brocato write a kissing scene Our hero, Jack, is hot as hell and his kisses made my toes curl The romantic conflict involving Jack s ex put my panties in a bunchthan once, but I absolutely adored that very public moment where Jack makes it plain and clear who he really loves. If you re looking for a small town, heartwarming and sexy read, this is your book The setting, the welcoming atmosphere of Granite Pointe, reminded me a little of where I live in a small southern town where family and friends are meant to be cherished and protected I m anxious to what else Brocato has to offer in her Five Senses series And I hope ALL her heroes kiss like Jack

A highly enjoyable read Jem blows into town on the heels of heartache and finds Jack, a hunky hero whose patience and caring are epic I loved them as a couple and will be thinking about their love story for days The romantic elements of the story were perfectly woven into a tale filled with suspense The characters were well fleshed out and I connected with even the secondary players Hopefully, I ll seeof them in the second book of the series Five stars from me.

I reviewed this book for my blog, Sundae With Nuts Up Love is Book 1 of the Five Senses series, where Miss Gemma has creatively tied each to one of the five sense organs of the human body vision, hearing, smell, taste and touch And within that clever premise, she builds a romance that blossoms around that sensation For Cooking Up Love You guessed it Taste Jemima George love the name is a professional chef after all.It may surprise you that I reviewed this book for my blog, Sundae With Nuts Up Love is Book 1 of the Five Senses series, where Miss Gemma has creatively tied each to one of the five sense organs of the human body vision, hearing, smell, taste and touch And within that clever premise, she builds a romance that blossoms around that sensation For Cooking Up Love You guessed it Taste Jemima George love the name is a professional chef after all.It may surprise you that Cooking Up Love is Miss Gemma s debut as it reads much better It s written with a confident voice and lacking so many of the cliche s that normally seem to fill early romancers Hers is an honest, humorous and clear storytelling voice, that very much reminds me of Nora Roberts In all the good ways You cannot deny the queen of romance and Miss Gemma has a style that I can connect to, just like our gazillionaire Nora. She sets the series in the small town of Granite Pointe on the eastern seaboard outside of Boston One of Miss Gemma s greatest strengths is with her characterization, how the internal and external struggles with Jem and Jack propel the story forward They are believable characters that do real things Not extraordinary that make you roll your eyes, thinking that never happens but real likable people that you root for because you ve been there yourself Well except for Jem s claustrophobia but I have the same deathly fear of heights, so I can relate girl Now, I just need a bit of kissy kissy to keep me preoccupied on a planeLOLI also know by my sneaky peaky of the next book in the series to be released in May 2014, Hearts in Harmony, that the characters are all linked, and we get to check in with the HEAs from earlier books to know they are all going well I love this about series writing, because in a good romance you invest so much of your heart into the hero and heroine, just like in Cooking Up Love Another strength in Miss Gemma s storytelling, and one I consider the most important in romance writing. But Cooking Up Love is also about the mystery With a couple layers of suspenseful elements, it becomes a page turner and the reader is engaged and committed to the end I don t want to ruin anything here for you, but suffice to say that the combination of who dunnit in a small town setting where everyone knowswell everyonethings can still turn out as you least expect it.A couple of my favorite quotes from the book When she caught sight of his lean fingers tracing pencil marks on the plans, or pointing out something he d changed since the last time they met, she found herself breathless, imagining how wonderful those fingers would feel trailing over her body I love man s hands LOL No question, if she got involved with him it was going to be a complicated, crowded relationship It would be her, plus Jack, plus all their baggage and damage from other loves Because ain t that the way The best part about CUL is there are fourbooks to come Well done, Miss Gemma I give Cooking Up Love 5 Cherries to top all of those wonderful pies

I enjoyed this book for many reasons The foremost is that Gemma Brocato managed to change my mind about the heroine s decision to give up her fun job in NYC as a personal assistant to a chef on a cooking show to settle down and run a cafe in a small New England town At first I couldn t believe anyone would want to give up an exciting life to run a cafe projecting much , but then the small town characters began to really grow on me Especially Jack He was yummy And so very kind He wasn t o I enjoyed this book for many reasons The foremost is that Gemma Brocato managed to change my mind about the heroine s decision to give up her fun job in NYC as a personal assistant to a chef on a cooking show to settle down and run a cafe in a small New England town At first I couldn t believe anyone would want to give up an exciting life to run a cafe projecting much , but then the small town characters began to really grow on me Especially Jack He was yummy And so very kind He wasn t one of those brash, manly take charge Alpha types that make me roll my eyes and wonder what the heroine sees in him except killer abs Instead, he was a compassionate, intelligent, somewhat damaged man who knew what he needed to become whole again With killer abs.Jem s character was a bitcomplicated I couldn t figure out what she ever saw in her cheating ex, but maybe it was all the drama of living in NYC when she was really a small town girl at heart As the story went on, she blossomed under Jack s patient wooing. Then there s the mystery One of the best parts of the novel Plain romance can get boring for me, but Ms Brocato spiced up this tale with a mysterious death and a few shady characters that kept me guessing until the end who was behind it all.I loved Jack s ex wife Whenever she called Jem Mrs Butterworth I couldn t help bursting out into laughter. This book is a great read for a winter s afternoon with a cup of tea and a blanket to snuggle beneath

Despite what I saw as a few major flaws, I mostly enjoyed the book The story not really what I was hoping for, but that wasn t actually one of its problems The lead was annoying much of the time, the conflict between her and the love interest contrived, and the ending was super rushed view spoiler First, let me admit that I picked up this book because the lead was a chef Not a lot of cooking happened This isn t the author s fault I m the one who wanted , buthadn t been promised Despite what I saw as a few major flaws, I mostly enjoyed the book The story not really what I was hoping for, but that wasn t actually one of its problems The lead was annoying much of the time, the conflict between her and the love interest contrived, and the ending was super rushed view spoiler First, let me admit that I picked up this book because the lead was a chef Not a lot of cooking happened This isn t the author s fault I m the one who wanted , buthadn t been promised. The lead was presented as this talented, capable, intelligent person who was taking a chance on starting a new life And yet, there were times when she acted like a child An annoying child I can understand not understanding why it isn t cool to wear a Yankees cap to a Bruins match, but I can t understand arguing about it in front of a pair of five year olds I also can t understand the other things she did in the presence of those five year olds Or her insistence on calling the love interest s ex wife his wife when she was feeling angry and or scared Seriously You re gonna feel rejected because he didn t take you up on your flirting right in front of his five year old niece and nephew Are you five And that s a good segue to the conflict between the two of them The love interest s ex was painted as over the top unpleasant and stupid and had a host of other unattractive personal traits Yet, the lead could only see that the ex was pretty That was the conflict the lead couldn t believe that the love interest would prefer normal her over crazy mean stupid ex wife Every time crazy mean stupid ex wife lied to the lead, the lead bought it Even when evidence to the contrary was staring the lead in the face So much for her intelligence And, yes, I get that the lead had trust issues, but you can mistrust the dude you re dating without being stupid The lead was simply stupid when it came to the relationship The book s climax and resolution occurred within a few pages of each other The end came so fast, I didn t quite believe it had really ended The Very Important Thing like, a Very Important Criminal Thing the lead had been ignoring for most of the book came to a head in a dangerous way, the cartoonish villains confessed to her in the manner of a Scooby Doo baddie, danger comes to her, and then HEA hide spoiler I wouldn t recommend this to anyone, but it wasn t horrible It s a light read with fake intrigue and ridiculous conflict, but there are a few attempts at being heartwarming that almost succeed
