Did somebody ghost write this for Cationa King It just didn t seem to be in the same league as the previous books A body is found on the beach, buried upright with just the head sticking out of the sand The murder bears a startling resemblance to one that occurred 30 years ago during the troubles.Normally I love a story that covers two ortimelines but this time it didn t work for me The present day murder was designed to draw attention to the link and I guessed the connection and cu Did somebody ghost write this for Cationa King It just didn t seem to be in the same league as the previous books A body is found on the beach, buried upright with just the head sticking out of the sand The murder bears a startling resemblance to one that occurred 30 years ago during the troubles.Normally I love a story that covers two ortimelines but this time it didn t work for me The present day murder was designed to draw attention to the link and I guessed the connection and culprit very early on To see the police running around like headless chooks wondering about the connection between the murders had me almost yelling at my kindle Can t you guys see what s in front of you, its so obvious It became a bit farcical to be honest think clowns at a circus appearing to be oblivious to something the audience can easily see Also, Marc s relationship with Julia is struggling as he won t leave Belfast and she can t transfer from Limavady because her bastard boss won t release her Julia was in floods of tears all the time and it was getting tiresome.I love this series Its usually dark and gritty and fast paced but I felt let down by this story Never mind, I ll forge ahead and hope the next one is better Most authors have a little slump and I m a forgiving sort of person

Another great read from CKYou not only get a fast paced thriller with many twists and turns with a Craig Crime novel but a welcome reunion with the gang and a fascinating insight into the lifestyle and customs of the people of N Ireland and how the troubles of recent history continue to perform a relevant role in present policing Grisly in parts with black humour and great banter..perfect ingredients for a crime thriller.

not one of her better storiesThe drinking and joking between these police is starting to get to me Not because they do it it s obvious stress relief in a profoundly difficult job but rather because it seems almost scheduled It s Saturday night, so everybody get drunk, but be at work by 9 on Monday And the lightning fast switchoff between sitting around making rude comments over breakfast to discussing a murder that touched all of them just missed Something in the way it was written seem not one of her better storiesThe drinking and joking between these police is starting to get to me Not because they do it it s obvious stress relief in a profoundly difficult job but rather because it seems almost scheduled It s Saturday night, so everybody get drunk, but be at work by 9 on Monday And the lightning fast switchoff between sitting around making rude comments over breakfast to discussing a murder that touched all of them just missed Something in the way it was written seemed off, and made the characters seemcrass and less human than King usually manages The plot, however, was the weakest link I d solved the murder much early than usual mostly due to the lack of effective red herrings or any real alternative killers and spent the rest of the book being annoyed at how dense the detectives all seemed The secondary plot of Lucia and the stalker felt totally random It had nothing to do with the main crime, and King didn t find a way to connect them either While it s nice to see Lucia growing into herself, that part of the story felt tacked on Then too, the love affair between Marc and Julia has gotten completely aggravating, and why have Julia collapsing in tears after every bloody conversation with Marc Yes, their situation is difficult, but King has turned Marc into a passive aggressive adult and Julia into a whiny sniveling teenager Neither of them looks good in those roles, and trying to make their breakup somehow predestined, with all the talk of he has a vision of his future wife and it s not Julia , or she s not as upset at the idea of not marrying him as she ought to be , just trivializes whatever they ve had Though so much of their relationship has happened offscreen, as it were, that who knows how they really feel about each other We know they each tell themselves that they love the other person, but we ve seen little evidence that s true, especially since Marc isn t even sure why he s not using his pull to get Julia transferred Right now I m tired of them both and very tired of Marc s whinging about how bad he feels for constantly abandoning Julia whenever he can find an excuse to stay away from her And those set speeches Julia keeps trotting out about how she s just being a true feminist while he s being a patriarchal chauvinist aren t working either Here s hoping the next book is better on all fronts

The fifth book to feature Superintendent Marc Craig and his squad isof what I expected an intriguing murder to keep you guessing even when you think you have the answer you ll find you are doubting yourself , a good feel for Belfast and the surrounding area, and the company of characters that feel like old friends. The Crime this time involves the murder of a young woman where method and location have startling similarities to a murder 30 years ago, at the height of The Troubles There i The fifth book to feature Superintendent Marc Craig and his squad isof what I expected an intriguing murder to keep you guessing even when you think you have the answer you ll find you are doubting yourself , a good feel for Belfast and the surrounding area, and the company of characters that feel like old friends. The Crime this time involves the murder of a young woman where method and location have startling similarities to a murder 30 years ago, at the height of The Troubles There is also a side Story that is a lot closer to home for one of the characters. There is reference to events from earlier in the series and appearances from at least one character from a previous story so it would be of benefit although not essential to read the other books first. As with the previous books in the series the storytelling is top notch, making you wantwhen the book is over There is insight into the lives of the squad members, sometimes little things, sometimes momentous, but even the little things feel like they matter.I am looking forward to the next book and seeing where things go for Marc Craig and his team One thing is certain Catriona King is a writer who deserves to be up there with the best of the crime writers I see a bright future ahead for her

Super SeriesI ve just finished the fifth Marc Craig Crime Series book I ve been binge reading and don t plan to stop until I get to the last book The characters are fleshed out so well I feel like I know them all personally The plots are good The thing I will say is that there is a recurring theme of late teenage to mid twenty year old dead girls which is getting bit old Ms King is way into women s rights I m a liitle surprised at an entire sqnuad of police officers that blush frequently Super SeriesI ve just finished the fifth Marc Craig Crime Series book I ve been binge reading and don t plan to stop until I get to the last book The characters are fleshed out so well I feel like I know them all personally The plots are good The thing I will say is that there is a recurring theme of late teenage to mid twenty year old dead girls which is getting bit old Ms King is way into women s rights I m a liitle surprised at an entire sqnuad of police officers that blush frequently Nicky really needs to learn that you can mother people without yelling or being nasty about it That sounds like a lot of negatives when in fact this is a most engaging series I would, and have, recommend to everybody I know

A crime is committed that has links with the past and involves people from very seperate sections of the community A love story with ambition, politics and retribution thrown in The action takes place mainly on the north coast with a tie up in Belfast Marc Craig s romantic life throws in another dimension but the reality of is romance doesn t really work for me There is something addictive about this series and I am always ready to read .

This is a darker andcomplex case for Superintendent Craig and his team and it works well.At first the link to an historic crime was worrying everyone who lives in NI is after all an expert in these matters or so they think Technical and historical correctness became secondary to the excellent pacey story and characters, although it took a while for the team to figure out what the readers had already.Thoroughly entertaining read

I didn t like this book as much as the others in the series The story dragged out too long The book could also use some copy editing for punctuation and other things I do like the series so I will read the next book.
