I am very disappointed with how this series turned out I hope this is the last one It has come to a conclusion and has gone downhill since midway through the first book, with just enough blips of potential to make me hope it could have been great I should have trusted my instinct when the first book began to fade One reason I stuck around was because the audiobook narrator, Nick Podehl is one of my favorites Even he couldn t keep me interested in this third book, unfortunately. While the lin I am very disappointed with how this series turned out I hope this is the last one It has come to a conclusion and has gone downhill since midway through the first book, with just enough blips of potential to make me hope it could have been great I should have trusted my instinct when the first book began to fade One reason I stuck around was because the audiobook narrator, Nick Podehl is one of my favorites Even he couldn t keep me interested in this third book, unfortunately. While the line by line writing shows talent, I just wasn t into the conflict or character development We share the POVs of North Korean soldiers who track down an oil shipment to the US, which brings them in contact with our main characters, who are in conflict with religous zealots Ugh, religious zealots Haven t seen that one before Neither enemy made me want to read and really stopped this from feeling like a zombie book Sure, zombies can get overdone and you need new sources of conflict, but both of these fell flat The ending amped up the tension, but only for a little bit and then it was over Interesting idea about the zombie virus and how the world will turn out in a few years, but that didn t help this book much aside from give our increasingly flat characters something to move toward. The character development between our main guy the lawyer, his much younger girlfriend and his Ukranian Yosemite Sam all suffered from the inclusion of the new POVs There was a brief spat between lawyer and girlfriend that separated them for most of the book, and while it was likely meant to make the endingpowerful, it really just chopped the legs off of the opportunity to show their relationship grow Lawyer and Yosemite Sam are friends by what has already happened, and in this book there is little growth The ending came and went with little emotional impact. The search continues for a zombie book and series that makes me care about the characters and conflict Onto The Girl with All the Gifts

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, but thought it went completely downhill from there This last book was very difficult to read as the subject matter completely veered away from the Undead zombies and became a book about an apocalyptic Holocaust, complete with the train ride of the non Aryan race exactly like the Jewish peoples on their way to the deathcamps In this case, it was religious zealot Aryans I have never squirmed with discomfort this much before I had already read I really enjoyed the first book in this series, but thought it went completely downhill from there This last book was very difficult to read as the subject matter completely veered away from the Undead zombies and became a book about an apocalyptic Holocaust, complete with the train ride of the non Aryan race exactly like the Jewish peoples on their way to the deathcamps In this case, it was religious zealot Aryans I have never squirmed with discomfort this much before I had already read most of the book or I would have DNF d at that point. And then What the heck Why were the Koreans even in this story That made no sense at all and was so far fetched even in a Zombie apocalypse But the worst is what happened at the end Why By this time, I was so done, I wasn t sad, I was just pissed off Worst ending I ve read in a very long time

Glad I stuck with the series.I recently received the Kindle Fire HD 7 for Christmas and downloaded the first book in this series.I am a pretty big horror fan and zombies are a natural go to.The first book, though not written as well as the second two, held my attention for the most part As a member ofunlimited I decided to read the next book I do not think I would have elected to pay for the second book based on the first, but because it was free I chose to download it.The second book Glad I stuck with the series.I recently received the Kindle Fire HD 7 for Christmas and downloaded the first book in this series.I am a pretty big horror fan and zombies are a natural go to.The first book, though not written as well as the second two, held my attention for the most part As a member ofunlimited I decided to read the next book I do not think I would have elected to pay for the second book based on the first, but because it was free I chose to download it.The second book was better than the first I think stepping away from the first person, journal writing, was a good idea and made the book flow better I read the second book in a few days and moved on to the third At this point I believe I would have paid a couple dollars to finish the series This book, the third in the series, was better than the first two combined. The characters weredeveloped and the author did a good job moving the story forward.I am glad I stuck with the series Because I read these back to back there was an immersive experience that did draw me into the author s world of devastation and death I developed a liking for the key character s and enjoyed the ride.As a side note, it is interesting that by the last book, the author s writing style appeared to change and, in my opinion, improved a great deal.I would recommend these books be read as a series

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers To view it, click here I enjoyed the first book, the second was OK, but the third was just not good at all The main characters kept making idiotic choices yet survivedout of unrealistic dumb luck than anything else On too many occasions, main characters find themselves interacting with people in positions of power who are clearly dangerous and yet they start yelling, cursing and violently arguing with these obviously dangerous and unstable people For some reason I can t fathom these people who are shown to be I enjoyed the first book, the second was OK, but the third was just not good at all The main characters kept making idiotic choices yet survivedout of unrealistic dumb luck than anything else On too many occasions, main characters find themselves interacting with people in positions of power who are clearly dangerous and yet they start yelling, cursing and violently arguing with these obviously dangerous and unstable people For some reason I can t fathom these people who are shown to be psychopaths and murderers many times over keep choosing to let the protagonist live If this were real life he would probably have gotten a bullet to the head the first time decided to shoot his mouth off at the Aryan guards His girlfriend Lucia is just as dumb In one scene she kept yelling accusing and insulting the obviously dangerous reverend, in front of his murderous skinhead guards, even after repeatedly being warned to keep quiet by her boyfriend Even days after this incident she is still angry because she was told to shut up by her boyfriend Doesn t this idiot realize how dangerous her situation was Then out of spite, she just decides to run away from her only two friends and risk her life to meet with a man she barely knows and only spoke with for a couple of minutes, why exactly This only gets her beaten, almost raped and her friend Prit almost killed, by that same guy These people are either very, very dumb, have a death wish or both. The reverend and Aryan skinheads are shown to be psychopathic racists who use minorities view all non whites as sub human and little less than animals But when we get to meet the oppressed minorities, they are universally shown to be violent, untrustworthy hooligans who are in many respects probably worse the racists themselves When Lucia goes to meet one of them, the first thing he tries to do is rape her, and it doesn t get much better from there I mean, what the hell All black and brown people are basically portrayed as littlethan sub human animals, exactly what the racist white Aryans said they were Umm yeahAnd the cat, how I hate that damned cat I have pets and I take very good care of them, but the protagonist was just obsessed with the fucking cat How many times does he have to endanger not only his own life, but the lives of his girlfriend and best friend before they say enough, let the cat just die already In real life they would all have been dead a long time ago because the protagonist would decide to put everyone s life at risk in order to save that damned cat.Although the first book was interesting and had a lot of promise, character development suffered as the series went along The protagonist kept making one poor decision after another He also had the annoying habit of yelling and insulting people whom he knew were very dangerous and capable of killing him without thinking twice How the hell was he ever a lawyer His habit of putting himself and his only two friends lives in danger in order to save his pet cat constantly was just idiotic How the hell did these people follow him His girlfriend was a self absorbed and dumb one dimensional character who only served as eye candy, the protagonists love interest and unnecessary drama And lastly Prit He was probably the most interesting of the three main protagonists Although I never understood his blind and selfless loyalty to the other two I mean, what the hell did Prit get out of this other than getting beat up to an inch of his life a couple of times due to dumb decisions made by both of his so called friends He should have at least gotten a girlfriend which could have given him the motivation to follow these two idiots But not even that These were not very likable people maybe with the exception of Prit nor were they very relatable The series should have been called The adventures of the cat obsessed lawyer, his self absorbed girlfriend and the mustachioed sidekick in racist zombieland.A very bad third, and hopefully final book to what began as a very promising series

This book was pretty good if you like zombie genre Sending the characters to the USA to face a racist bad guy seemed a little bit of a stretch seeing as they start out in Spain Anyone one has seen a recent European election or soccer league game, knows that Europe certainly doesn t lack for racists of its own it also continued a trend of putting characters in an inescapable situation only to have them always escape still the characters were nicely developed and the plot and pacing worked as This book was pretty good if you like zombie genre Sending the characters to the USA to face a racist bad guy seemed a little bit of a stretch seeing as they start out in Spain Anyone one has seen a recent European election or soccer league game, knows that Europe certainly doesn t lack for racists of its own it also continued a trend of putting characters in an inescapable situation only to have them always escape still the characters were nicely developed and the plot and pacing worked assuming your could suspend your disbelief of their never ending luck

Why Just why Reads like a first time writer stilted dialogue, predictable plots, and really very little in the way of contribution to the genre Not sure if the problem is the translation or original story but I d give this series a miss Not worth your time of money Really unsure how this made it into any lists of must reads The author must have a lot of friends bc its rating is deceptive a 2 dressed up as a 5.

What do I think I think that I should start my writing career I could come up with something at least this imaginative on my own A pansy with a cat wouldn t last five minutes in a survival situation, so the narrow escapes get old after a while.
