Apparently this is book two of a series entitled Moonshine Mystery which I was unaware of when I choose this book to read The title is what intrigued me to pick up the book. The story takes place in a small town in Virginia Our protagonist is Daisy McGovern who after her husband left her decided to convert the local diner into a bakery She calls the bakery Sweetie Pies Daisy s best friend Brenda helps her achieve her goals. While Brenda is baking in the kitchen of the bakery, three men enter Apparently this is book two of a series entitled Moonshine Mystery which I was unaware of when I choose this book to read The title is what intrigued me to pick up the book. The story takes place in a small town in Virginia Our protagonist is Daisy McGovern who after her husband left her decided to convert the local diner into a bakery She calls the bakery Sweetie Pies Daisy s best friend Brenda helps her achieve her goals. While Brenda is baking in the kitchen of the bakery, three men enter to rob the store Brenda manages to stab one of the robbers in self defense the other two robbers take off with 90 pounds of cream cheese and crates In the search for the identity of the dead man and catch the robbers the story takes us into the area of moonshine, gun slingers, and stolen historic maps. The story is well written with a cast of colorful characters including eccentric mountain men The book is also full of southern charm The author adds a bit of humor to the story unfortunately the story drags a bit at times. This is an easy to read book that makes a good get away from it all book I read this as an audio book downloaded from Audible Erin Bennett narrated the book

This is an okay escape, but flaws from the first book continue Nothing that happened in the first book seems to have influenced the relationships in this book And Daisy Ducky yikes continues to behave in irresponsible ways by withholding evidence until it s convenient to turn it over and the police don t have a problem with that, which is convenient and going into dangerous situations without telling anyone else and the police are okay with that, too Other characters behave in inconsis This is an okay escape, but flaws from the first book continue Nothing that happened in the first book seems to have influenced the relationships in this book And Daisy Ducky yikes continues to behave in irresponsible ways by withholding evidence until it s convenient to turn it over and the police don t have a problem with that, which is convenient and going into dangerous situations without telling anyone else and the police are okay with that, too Other characters behave in inconsistent ways the loutish and slow witted brother becomes a wilderness tracking genius, bold, daring, and decisive, when the plot requires it That seems to be the case with several other characters as well the plot drives the character and not the character the plot And so on I may give Miller onechance when the third book comes out Or I may not

Book one, Murder and Moonshine was exciting and hard to put down, with twists that kept me guessing until the end I felt this sequel took a lot longer to gain momentum and wasn t as exciting a journey or as interesting a mystery There wasn t much character development or rounding out of their pasts relationships that would have made the reader care a littleabout what happened And what was with the flooding salon subplot I ve noticed the pub date for book three has been delayed, I m Book one, Murder and Moonshine was exciting and hard to put down, with twists that kept me guessing until the end I felt this sequel took a lot longer to gain momentum and wasn t as exciting a journey or as interesting a mystery There wasn t much character development or rounding out of their pasts relationships that would have made the reader care a littleabout what happened And what was with the flooding salon subplot I ve noticed the pub date for book three has been delayed, I m not sure to take that as a good or bad sign I ll read on because I like Daisy and would like to knowabout her past, which was hinted at in this book but not delved in to

Perhaps 3.5 stars I definitely liked this one better than the first book in the series One thing I found interesting is that, despite the contemporary setting, there is little reliance on all of the modern conveniences, especially since GPS and cell phone service is often quite patchy due to the terrain The main characters all return, with their various peculiarities The story starts with a robbery at the bakery Daisy and her friend Brenda now run but the theft makes no sense, and one of t Perhaps 3.5 stars I definitely liked this one better than the first book in the series One thing I found interesting is that, despite the contemporary setting, there is little reliance on all of the modern conveniences, especially since GPS and cell phone service is often quite patchy due to the terrain The main characters all return, with their various peculiarities The story starts with a robbery at the bakery Daisy and her friend Brenda now run but the theft makes no sense, and one of the thieves is killed during it Since the sheriff is away, and Daisy doesn t think too highly of his deputy, she continues to puzzle over the robbery Well plotted and hard to put down

It was fine, but too predictable The lack of possible suspects made the culprit pretty obvious I even guess the motive before the halfway mark The first book was much better.
