    Amanda in Alberta is the fourth book in the series written by Darlene Foster I had not read any of Foster s earlier books, but I was intrigued by the title as I had visited Alberta many years ago In this book, Leah, Amanda s good friend from England, comes for a visit Amanda s family are great hosts and spend the majority of Leah s visit by showing her the sights of Alberta The author demonstrates her research and knowledge of Alberta by cleverly weaving nuggets of history throughout this ta Amanda in Alberta is the fourth book in the series written by Darlene Foster I had not read any of Foster s earlier books, but I was intrigued by the title as I had visited Alberta many years ago In this book, Leah, Amanda s good friend from England, comes for a visit Amanda s family are great hosts and spend the majority of Leah s visit by showing her the sights of Alberta The author demonstrates her research and knowledge of Alberta by cleverly weaving nuggets of history throughout this tale.In addition to all of the interesting historical facts, Foster writes an entertaining work of fiction Amanda finds a stone with unusual markings on it She wants to present the rock to her Great Aunt Mary, a paleontologist, to find outabout it, but before she can, she discovers that many other characters are interested in her stone Hank McGavity, a former ranchhand, is the one most obsessed and is willing to threaten and possibly harm Amanda to get it.I think many kids would enjoy this book I found some of the dialogue between Amanda and Leah to be unnatural in places, but overall, this is an excellent children s book
