I like reading books about life in different countries and this book really did do that justice It gives you a good impression of how people go about their lives in Lebanon amidst the bombings and volatile war situations If you want to read this book for the romance between Maya and James, it was a big let down because I found it very shallow At the same time I wonder if it is a true reflection of Lebanese women because this isn t the first time I ve read about them being described as moral free gold diggers I really couldn t take James seriously because he was just as shallow as Maya was and that is not qualities you expect in the hero heroin of a book Infact, the protagonists being so lust and money driven was sadder than people dying. Also I couldn t care much for the whole pop video directing which takes up a lot of the book. The really touching part of the book was the political side of it in the Palestinian refugee storyline about Aisha It really tugs at your heart strings and makes you re evaluate your priorities, especially after reading the story of Aisha s mother, Fatima, where she nearly dies trying to hold on to the key of her house as they were being driven out of Palestine view spoiler When she does finally meet her sister Dalia, whom she was seperated from, at the border she tells her sister through the fence to unlock the front door of their house an...

It simply introduces Beirut, the way it was, is and forever will be So complicated, so Ironic, full of hypocrisy yet Beautiful.
